Top Insider Tips to Making the Most of Disney

Photo taken from http://disney-world-games.com/In honor of the happiest-place-on-earth’s 40th anniversary on October 1, the folks at social travel site Gogobot put together this list of the keys to the kingdom: Top Insider Tips to Making the Most of Disney.

Here are the top 5 insider tips, from Gogobot users:

1. For the older family: Keys to the Kingdom Tour

You have to be at least 16-years-old for this tour. The tour lasts about 4 hours or so and is about $70 on top of park admission. Sure, you can see most of the stuff covered on this tour by watching specials on the Travel Channel. However, if you’re a Disney freak like I am, there’s simply no comparison to seeing it in person. My favorite part – the “underworld.” There’s so much that goes on behind, er, under the scenes that you have to see it to believe it!

2. For adults: Drink around the world
The World Showcase area of Epcot, as you may know, features pavilions from different countries around the world. These pavilions have kiosks that feature local adult beverages and, sometimes, small snacks. You can literally spend an entire day drinking around the world at Epcot. Simply start at one end and begin exploring the food & beverage of countries that most people only dream of going to. You’re sure to have a blast. Cheers!

3. For the romantic: IllumiNations

This fireworks spectacular takes place every night at closing. It takes place on the lake in the center of the World Showcase. While there are places to see it all around the lake, there are some places that are downright horrible. The better places start to fill up early, so plan accordingly. The China and Germany pavilions recently had changes to the areas overlooking the lake, and make for great viewing.

4. For kids: Jedi Training Academy

If you have a young Star Wars fan in your family, this is a must-do! My son will never, ever forget his experience. The Jedi Master teaches his small group of Padawans the ways of the Force. Participants actually feel like Padawans in their brown robes as they wield lightsabers. The most blood-pumping part of the experience is when the Storm Troppers & Vader arrive. Too cool for words.

5. For the aspiring artists: Magic of Disney Animation

While the short movie on how animation is made is well done, the best part is what follows. There is a place to meet characters. Usually the latest or upcoming movie is featured here. Also, Fantasia Mickey is featured here. There are areas to try your hand at coloring a scene, or adding sounds to an animated scene. The cool part is the area where you can learn to draw a Disney character. Often it is one of the Fab Five. The very cool part is that you can keep your drawing. The really very cool part is this is free. And you can come back several times. Perfect for all ages.

2011 National Alpaca Farm Days

by Dustin on September 25, 2011 at 11:55 pm
Posted In: Blog, Reviews

This weekend was National Alpaca Farm Days. Did you go check it out? I sure hope you had the chance as my family went to check out the scene.

We found an Alpaca farm not to far from out house and met up with another little boy and his father there. The farm was huge and sported over 100 alpacas along with chickens, horses, koi and canaries. We spend most of the time with the alpacas and my daughter loved it. Granted, she did get cranky a few times and tried to make a break for the electrified fence, but we caught her in time.

While we were there we came across two females that loved kids. They let my daughter and her friend pet them with out fear. Even when they got cranky and started to shout a little to loudly, they just raised to their heads as if to say, “why you yelling little one? Be cool.”

Overall we had a great time. The owners were really nice and actually invited us back anytime to enjoy the farm. You could really tell that she loved her home and the animals that she was raising. Not going to lie, we’re probably going to go back sometime and say hi to the animals again.

Enjoy a few photos of alpacas. See you next year!

Have you ever felt an alpaca? They're so soft. Like a giant walking, pooping pillow of awesome.A friendly alpaca shows off his from teeth for the camera I call them Curly, Hairy and Moe

300 Comics

by Dustin on September 22, 2011 at 11:59 pm
Posted In: Blog, Observations

That’s right folks, Plus One has officially hit 300 comics. To celebrate, I took a few minutes to sketch this out last night. I like how it turned out if I do say so myself.

I’m also not sure if I would be extremely terrified or bust out laughing if a 1 1/2 year old came running at me in full gear with that deadly look to kill in their eyes much like Anna has right now.

To celebrate 300 Plus One comics, enjoy this 300 parady with the Rhodes

Choose your words wisely Rhodes. They maybe your last as king.

Oh, I’ve chosen my words carefully. Perhaps you should have done the same!

This is madness…

Madness? We are family!

Random Sickness – Late Comic

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that I spent the better part of my evening between my drawing table and the bathroom. I don’t know what’s wrong with me but I wasn’t doing to good last night.

As you can see in the picture, this is as far as I manage to get. Not sure when the comic will be up, depends on how I’m feeling and what not.

Remember, I’ll always post comics to Facebook and Twitter, so check those often for when I update the site!

Sinestro as a Dad

by Dustin on September 11, 2011 at 2:18 pm

This is a digital drawing I did of DC supervillain and Green Lantern nemesis, Sinestro, as a loving father. I like the idea of a super villain using his powers for “good”, even if that good is making a rocking horse for his son.

I won’t tell you what this is for but I will say that this is just one of many. Next time I speak of this project will hopefully be the day it’s done.

Digital drawing by Dustin Reese of DC super villain Sinestro playing with his son.

Sue Storm – Tuesday Sketch

Tuesday Sketch topic – Fantastic Four

I was actually pretty excited for this one. I’ve had this idea in my for a few months regarding super heroes and Sue Storm was on my list of people I’d need to learn to draw. While searching the internet for source material, I came across lots of half naked versions of her. You know, for someone who is considered the “Mother of the Marvel Universe”, she does like to get naked a lot. Feel free to Google search that one if you like.

So my take on the character is a bit more wholesome. As Diane put it, my first attempt looks like a teenage Sue Storm.

Teenage Sue Storm by Dustin Reese 8/30/2011

I had to agree with her. The big eyes, upturned nosed, wide wide smile. It all just screamed “youth”. I tried again with a more aged version. I’ll let you be the the judge of how good I did….

Nerf Maverick – Demon Hunter

by Dustin on August 21, 2011 at 11:58 pm
Posted In: Blog, Reviews

My recently celebrated his birthday and I wanted to get him something really cool and unique. Without going into to much detail, my friend has a healthy fascination with Chathulu and HP Lovecraft (although he refuses to read them due to fear that it will not live up to his expectations). This love of the cult is what spawned this idea of mine, this unique gift that I’ve been working on for a few weeks now.

Pictured below is the Nerf Maverick dart gun that I modified to be Themis, the demon hunter pistol. This wonderfully crafted weapon features a metal mounted cross for fighting off demons, a dangling witches pendulum for locating and warding off creatures, various protection symbols and silver bullets. The pictures were taken in a cemetery at night (yes, I was freaked out the entire time cause I was by myself the whole time). Hope you enjoy!

Grade: 3 out of 5 stars

Price: $12.99

Summary: “My Quest to be a Single Dad” is a journal like record of Gary White and his experience with the adoption process. The book starts off with a brief detail of Gary’s childhood in the 50′s & 60′s and quickly speeds through to his adult life. On the night before his new adopted son was set to arrive, Gary has a panic attack and checks himself into the hospital. Due to this incident, he loses his son and negatively effects his future attempts to adopt. The book continues to the present day, with Gary continuing his attempts to adopt a child. Late comic

by Diane on August 3, 2011 at 12:01 am
Posted In: Uncategorized

Hey guys, it’s been…. a summer. I say summer cause it’s been more then a day, more then a week and more then a month. I’ve just been so busy and any buffer I try to build just gets crushed in the waves of parenting, paying work and attempting to keep sane.

Have said that, I’m about halfway through today’s comic right now but I just couldn’t finish it. As of this writing, it’s almost midnight and I wanted to get to bed before 1am at least once so far this week.

Thank you for understanding that I’m human and putting up with this. Like I said, I’ll attempt to post this later today but if I can’t, I’ll get it tomorrow for sure. Just know that I’ll post something via Facebook and Twitter when the update finally shows.

See you later.
